Gurlhood is an online platform founded in March 2023 to empower, encourage and elevate unapologetic South African gurls*.

Through sharing our stories of mental health, feminist issues and other topics that shape the lived experiences of young women, we continue to foster awareness, humanity and a journey of collective healing and learning.

Gurlhood is a vibrant community where our gurls feel seen, heard, supported and encouraged. ❤️

*All gurls are welcome, including non-binary people, members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies.

about our founder

Zenith Kwinana is a writer, speaker and model from Pretoria, South Africa. She founded Gurlhood in 2023 while completing her final year of undergraduate studies at Stellenbosch University.

As part of advocating for women’s and LGBTQ+ rights, Zenith aims to use her love of writing and passion for storytelling as a mouthpiece for change and empowerment.

Gurlhood is a reflection of Zenith’s vibrant energy, and is an expression of her courage, passion and creativity.
